Privacy & Security

At e-storage, there is no NSA enforcement being implemented
— because your data security and privacy are out top priority.

When working on a project, very often you will need to share files among colleagues and business partners. If these files are not protected in a way when they are being transmitted over the Internet, they can be easily intercepted.

e-storage provides client-side encryption feature, which no one other than yourself will have the passphrase to decrypt the files. Once you have encrypted the files, drop the files to your business partners using the Send File/Folder function. You can inform them the passphrase through other channels like email, SMS or by phone.

With the passphrase, they can decrypt the files using the Decrypt tool on e-storage portal or StorageSync. Or, if your recipients are non-estorage users, they can install and use GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) or other PGP software to decrypt the files.

Secure file transfer

The client StorageSync allows you to upload, download or synchronize files securely using SSL. To achieve extra security, you can even encrypt and compress the files before transferring them. You will need to supply a password for the encryption and only the same password can decrypt the files again.

The encryption algorithm used is CAST5 using 128-bit key length. This is the default algorithm used in the GPG, a cryptographic software tool compatible with PGP

StoragSync also enables the scanning of all files that are being transferred for possible virus infection. Files that are found infected will not be deleted. Instead, they will be flagged as error and will not be uploaded to your storage.

This feature is by no means a replacement for your computer’s anti-virus software, but a security measure to prevent virus files from spreading among all who share them.

User Control Access Rights (UCAR)

In order to present a more secure and controlled environment for file sharing and collaboration on Company Share, access rights control is necessary. In e-storage, we have User Control Access Rights (UCAR), which allows the administrator to control user access and permission when accessing files shared in the Company Share folder.

The administrator can set if the user is allowed to upload files, view folder content, create and delete files, create and delete sub folders, read and write files, rename files and folders on each of the sub folders resided in the Company Share folder. Just right click on the folder and select UCAR Options to change its access rights.

Secure login

The login process at e-storage portal and StorageSync client is SSL-protected (Secure Sockets Layer) by default. This security protocol ensures that your login credentials are transmitted securely over the Internet and prevents unauthorized party from intercepting or viewing your username and password.
